EU To Hold Extraordinary Summit on Ukraine and European Defence on 6 March

The heads of state and government of the European Union will hold an extraordinary summit on 6 March on Ukraine and European defence, according to a EU official.

The summit, convened by the president of the European Council, António Costa, will be held in Brussels and the topics on the agenda will be Ukraine and European defence, the source said.
“I have decided to convene a special European Council on 6 March. We are living a defining moment for Ukraine and European security,” said Costa in an X post.
In this regard, Costa stated that he have heard from European leaders “shared commitment to meet those challenges at EU level” to strength the EU’s Defence and “contributing decisively to peace on our continent and long-term security of Ukraine.”
His intention now, he said, is to continue working with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and all the member states to “be ready to make decisions on March 6.”
The President of the European Council will attend in person this Monday at the summit called by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, in Kyiv, where 37 leaders are expected to participate, 24 of whom will do so remotely.
Also present in the Ukrainian capital will be the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, with 24 of her commissioners, including the First Vice President, Teresa Ribera, as well as the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, among others.
